Rebuild Rainbow House: a Safe Haven for our LGBTQ Community
Donation protected
Far too many members of our LGBTQ+ community have been subjected to trauma by our families, simply because we were born queer in the Bible Belt. It breaks my heart to see so many members of our community in despair, depression, and anxiety. I believe that everyone can heal, contribute, and flourish in the right conditions, and I seek to provide those conditions via Rainbow House when and where I can.
We are fundraising to renovate this 99 year old historic Highland house and repair the damage caused by a fallen tree to our men's dorm, which can accommodate up to 6 people and has an ensuite bathroom with a toilet, sink, and shower. This room sustained the majority of the damage from the fallen tree.

Our mission is to provide temporary housing for members of our community who are in Shreveport to receive medical care or be near someone in the hospital, give a helping hand to those who need a little temporary support to get back on their feet, support our 50+ LGBTQ+ community, educate and preserve Shreveport's LGBTQ+ history, and foster the talents of all members of our community with art exhibitions, open mic nights, writer’s workshops, spiritual retreats, etc.
Weekly community center wholesome events include yoga class, DIY Saturdays, cooking group, baking group, Christian prayer meeting, Buddhist meditation, games and lunch, coffee and cards, and movie night. Monthly events like poker night for the trans masculine community, board game night, and various support group meetings hosted by other local LGBTQ+ organizations and community members may be scheduled for the community center.
We offer a free, safe place that isn’t a bar, to socialize and support and uplift community members who feel isolated. We will host Rainbow Family holiday meals for the community members who don't feel welcome with their birth family.
We are the safe space to foster your growth and help you find your way. We all work and contribute to the Rainbow Family and Rainbow House in ways that fit our individual talents and strengths. We are inclusive. There is a place for all community members and allies here. We just have one rule... Don't be a jerk!!
