Support CSM (R) Mark Nielsen & Wife

Donation protected

On Saturday, January 18th, 2020, at 0300, CSM (R) Mark Nielsen suffered a massive stroke and is now fighting for his life.

Ranger Mark Nielsen is not responsive to verbal commands. The family has been told there is a 70-80% mortality rate for these types of cases. They were also told that if he does survive, Mark will always have a deficit with his speech and movement on his right side.

Mark's wife, Marisa, and his sister, have been beside Mark throughout this ordeal. They are both navigating some very uncertain and confusing waters as each day passes. They have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of prayers, support and well-wishes from countless friends and men that served with Mark during his incredible 32 year career in the U.S. Army.

Mark Nielsen enlisted in the United States Army in 1973 and, after training, began his military career in the 1st Battalion, 509th Airborne Infantry (Geronimo). Initially, the 509th was located in West Germany, but shortly after his arrival, moved to Vicenza, Italy. The years that followed included 15 years with the 75th Ranger Regiment, where he served in all three battalions of the Regiment, as well as headquarters. After being selected for the rank of Sergeant Major and completing the Sergeant Majors Academy, he once again returned to the 1st of the 509th Airborne Infantry Battalion - this time as their Command Sergeant Major (CSM). Afterwards, Mark went on to become the CSM for the 1st of the 508th Airborne Infantry (173rd Airborne Brigade), back again in Vicenza, Italy. Following this assignment, Mark went on to become the CSM for the 2nd Battalion (Raider Rakkasan) of the 187th Infantry (101st Airborne Division (Air Assault)). Over 32 years after Mark began his journey, he quietly retired in 2005 at Fort Campbell, Kentucky and retired to Florida with his beautiful wife, Marisa.

The future is uncertain at this point -- What is known: MARK AND HIS WIFE NEED OUR HELP.

I will also say this: If Mark knew what I was asking of all of you, and he was able, he would kick my ass "six ways to Sunday."
