With a heavy heart I share the unexpected passing of my father, Rex Cange. A child of Haiti, he was a charmer, whether in the form of a compliment, a wise word when you’re down, or meaningful eye contact when you needed a friend. He was decisive and stubborn with a soft side that he kept hidden until he was in a car with a good ballad in the background (my favorite being Whitney Houston). He was a father, a brother, a son, a friend and any other term you could think of for someone who would share love when he could but not afraid to give hate when he believed it was deserved.
Until his death, he made deep lasting relationships. The only thing making the busywork of death easier is the cadre of staff members from the nursing home who shared memories, nicknames, and tears. When asked for any photos of him during his time in the care facility, the social worker admitted it might take a few days because she would have to reach out to all the different shifts. My father was a fire. When you looked at him you could find the love you wanted to see.
Death, of any kind, comes with pain, stress, and financial expenses. As I move through the hardest thing I have experienced, I am asking for support to ease that burden. Moments of loss are filled with sadness and community care is what helps us get through. Any support you may be able to provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your loving kindness.
