Somos en escrito Magazine and Somos en escrito Literary Foundation Press is dedicated to publishing raza authors to express the narratives and needs of our communities, which typically get overlooked by the mainstream presses. We intend to be the institution nobody else will build for us.

We seek to publish books that look to the future, where gente exist, that finds solutions in storytelling, rather than provide mere visibility.

We promote narratives that break cycles, call to action: fiction that goes hand in hand with our nonfiction books that allow our community to do more than gaze in the mirror, but meditate on solutions within, the future, and transformation.

We published the first first Chicano sci-fi anthology with its sequel on the way Chicanofuturism Now! Our other upcoming anthology for 2024 consists of Chicana writers called Somos Xicanas which will be the first of its kind in decades. Your donation helps these books come to light!

We co-sponsor Palabras del Pueblo Workshop, an online writing workshop that seeks to develop our writers to seek our gente as an audience and to be financially accessible for raza to learn to better express themselves. Our recent lineup of instructors this year included Luis Rodriguez, Lorna Dee Cervantes, Matt Sedillo, Ernesto Mireles, Rios de la Luz, E.G. Conde, Juan G. Berumen, and E.C.-Dukes.

Our award winning books include Insurgent Aztlan by Ernesto Mireles, on providing a new paradigm of liberation and our bilingual book Our Grandfathers Were Braceros on the Bracero Program, the origins of our presence for many Mexican Americans. We hope to continue books that both relate our history as raza and inform and give our community the tools necessary for activism and change.

We have two poetry books coming up for 2024, Abuela Lore by Isabella Santana, a debut book by a young author, and Corazón de agua / Heart of Water by Xánath Caraza.
