Support RBA and Malang youth for an impactful 2025

We are in need of your help. My name is Dino, a volunteer at Ruang Belajar Aqil (RBA), an organisation dedicated to empower the children and youth of Malang. It's a mission that is ever relevant as the literacy and numeracy rates for children in Indonesia are still shockingly low. This unacceptable fact is the reason why Ruang Belajar Aqil has been working relentlessly to organise hundreds of learning events for children of different ages, and inspires the next generation to love reading and working with numbers. Moreover, they are facilitating teacher workshops so that progress becomes sustainable and can be continued by teachers themselves.

This past year, Ruang Belajar Aqil, as a collective of volunteers, dozens of interns and its collaborators, have made a lasting impact by organising learning events, reading classes, teacher workshops, online sharing sessions, culture exchange activities and so much more. Ruang Belajar Aqil is trying its very best to fill the educational gaps, especially in reading skills and numeracy skills, and it does so by collaborating intensely with organisations such as the Ministry of Education, the British Council and several universities here in Malang. Great progress has been made since RBA's humble beginning back in 2010.

As a international volunteer, I can only see so much in two months, but it's clear to me that Ruang Belajar Aqil's work must continue. Their efforts rely on their volunteers and interns who put in an incredible amount of work to keep the programs going. The volunteers often have side jobs to provide a living. In short, it's a labour of love that runs on very limited resources. Although they get occasional support from Indonesian donors, this year has been hard. So much so, that there are inadequate funds left to secure the office space for next year. We only need an additional 600 euro, but the rent is due on December 1st.

RBA's office is small but a crucial place where volunteers and interns work hard to prepare all the upcoming programs and activities.

As Ruang Belajar Aqil has provided me and 30+ other international volunteers with lovely host families and amazing experiences, I hope we can do something back for them. When we succeed to gather funds for the office rent, only 600 euros to go, we can make sure that Ruang Belajar Aqil makes a huge impact on the youth of Malang in 2025!
