Support Recovery and Stability for a Black Disabled Mom

Donation protected
I have debated creating a gofundme for 930 days. Since I first started struggling to get back on my feet (literally and figuratively) after fleeing an abusive home. Still recovering from severe PPD, the onset of a (hopefully soon-to-be-diagnosed) lung condition that is now debilitating, arthritis, and chronic pain and illness I’ve lived with for many years. It’s different now, though. I’ve never been impacted to this degree. Every day. Every moment. Every breath.

I am writing this to humbly ask you for your financial support so I can focus on my health and applying for remote jobs as soon as possible.

Unlike the past, I’m not physically able to do SW. As much as I’d love to apply to any and all jobs like I was once able to, I need mobility aid to do anything, to avoid seizures. I’ve been having seizures at my current job and know that the longer I stay there the more my health issues will be exacerbated. I need help from multiple medical professionals: a neurologist, a rheumatologist, podiatrist, and other specialists who can help me get the treatment and medication I need. I had specialists before my separation from my soon-to-be-ex-husband and before navigating racist, ableist, anti-Black work-related trauma that I’m unable to discuss for legal reasons.

I am so thankful for friends and loved ones who have held me through seizures, helped me stay nourished, and sent me emergency funds to handle unexpected expenses for my health and survival otherwise. There are few people who know what my day-to-day life is like and how much my pain impacts me. How some days I struggle to walk to the bathroom, how much my cane helps me on a regular basis, how I spend around 15-20 hours underground commuting and struggling to navigate countless inaccesible train stations, how what little energy I have I save for days with my daughter.

All I want to do is settle into a remote job (that compensates me fairly and isn’t managed by racist capitalists who lie to, exploit, and extract from me) that will enable me to put my skills, talents, and decades of research to use toward anti-colonial futures. In order to do that, I need funds to pay for rent, transportation, medical appointments, and childcare while I search for jobs and seek medical help, possibly even disability benefits once my divorced is finalized. I’ll also be able to prioritize applying for SNAP and any other possible benefits I qualify for.

I am terrified to share this and truly nervous about what’s to come. I’ve never needed support like this before. If you don’t have money to spare, or you’d rather contribute to other funds, I fully understand! I’d also love support in the form of HIRING ME: www.soiledarchives.com is my website! I’m ready for freelance writing work, virtual administrative work, consulting, and more. I’d love to talk with you about my experience and background in education, content creation, research, ghostwriting, and more!
