Hello! About 2 weeks ago I woke up in the middle of the night not being able to move my legs. Being diabetic I panicked. I had to call the ambulance and was sent to one hospital. They couldn’t run the tests I needed so I was transferred to another hospital. I had so many blood tests run. 1 MRI one day. The next day I had 4 and it took all day. 2 CAT scans. All coming back with no findings. So the next step was a lumbar puncture. That was painful even with pain meds and 4 shots of lidocaine. I spent the next 6 hours not being able to do anything or move from laying flat on my back so the puncture could close and no spinal fluid would leak into my body. But thankfully that test gave us the result I needed. I was diagnosed with Guillan Bare Syndrome. It is triggered by infection and causes paralysis starting in the feet then to the legs working its way Up the body. I’m thankful mine only went up to my legs and my hands. But I’m in chronic pain still and unable to walk without a Walker and even then I can still barely walk. It takes all my energy just to walk 20 feet to go to the bathroom. The IV meds to help me get the feeling in my legs back costs $1,200 per treatment and I had a 5 day treatment. GBS is serious and physical therapy is required to regain function. I’m looking for help as physical therapy is not cheap. Prayers are also helpful.
