Jamal's Recovery: Help a Shooting Victim Rebuild His Life"

Dear Friends and Community,

My name is Tina, and I am reaching out to ask for your support in establishing a healing and recovery fund for my beloved nephew, Jamal Avery. As his aunt, I have had the privilege of watching him grow into a remarkable young man—one whose kindness, warmth, and unwavering positivity brighten the lives of everyone around him.

Jamal is just 19 years old, a devoted husband, and a loving father to his two-year-old son and infant daughter. On September 1, 2024, his life was forever changed when he became the victim of a senseless act of violence. While assisting his boss with a fence repair, an altercation with a local individual escalated into gunfire. Tragically, Jamal’s boss, who courageously attempted to intervene, was fatally shot, leaving behind three young children.

Jamal suffered multiple gunshot wounds—one to his jaw, which shattered the bone and sent fragments into his brain, and another to his chest, causing severe lung damage and pneumonia. Emergency surgery was performed to save his life, he has endured numerous surgeries, including jaw reconstruction, lung surgery, and a delicate brain operation to extract bone fragments. Including the removal of part of his skull to relieve pressure. Against all odds, he survived. God has truly done a miracle Over the past six months Jamal has shown great strength and resilience which has been nothing short of inspiring.

While Jamal continues to recover, he has not yet been cleared to return to work. As the primary provider for his family, this has placed an immense financial strain on his wife and parents, who are doing everything they can to support him. That’s why we are launching this GoFundMe—to help cover his ongoing medical and rehabilitation costs, as well as essential living expenses during his recovery.
