Support Reed and Mitchell After Asheville Flooding
Donation protected
My name is Kayla and I am raising money for my brother Reed and his boyfriend Mitchell who have been affected by the flooding due to Hurricane Helene in Asheville, NC.
Last November, my brother Reed and his boyfriend Mitchell moved their animal genetics business from Sacramento, CA to Asheville, NC. Over the weekend, the entire town, along with the business that Mitchell owns and Reed works at, has been devastated by the destruction from Hurricane Helene. While they have insurance, it does not cover damage from floods due to the increasing prevalence of flooding due to climate change. This means their expensive lab equipment that was ruined by floodwaters, including a $500,000 genomic sequencer, is not covered by their insurance.
Luckily, their apartment is on the third floor and has so far been safe, although the first floor of their building flooded up to 7ft. They are currently staying with a nearby friend who has power and access to well water. This is essential given that Asheville's water system was deeply damaged by the storm, and it is estimated that the city will not have clean water for weeks and is currently on boil-water precautions.
As they figure out next steps and plans to relocate, we are asking for financial assistance to help them and their business get back on their feet. We appreciate any and every donation, no matter the size. It takes a village and right now, we are asking you to be that village.
