Support "Resistance: A Community Tour"

Donation protected
"Resistance: A Community Tour" is a production of a new play by Taylor Sklenar exploring herbicide resistance and what happens when a new herbicide is introduced to a rural Iowa town. The production will tour to farming communities in Iowa and perform free-of-charge, followed by community conversations about audience members' related experiences. The project is funded in part by an Iowa Arts Council grant, which requires a cash match from non-governmental sources. We need your help to raise these remaining funds and bring this important story to communities across Iowa!

What will your donation support?
We are seeking to raise the $5000 cash match through a combination of crowdfunding and local business sponsorships. Your donation will go directly to:
  • Travel expenses
  • Marketing expenses and printing (posters, programs, scripts)
  • Costumes
  • Props
  • Artist stipends
  • Keeping these performances free!

Donors providing support of $50 or more will be thanked in the program!

More about the story
This small farming community has been seeing the impacts of increasingly herbicide-resistant weeds in their fields in recent years, affecting their bottom line and endangering their way of life. When Frank, the largest farmer in the community, brings a new herbicide, which utilizes a novel chemical pathway, to the community, many of the farmers are relieved for the effective new tool. But Frank’s neighbor, Syd, an edgy organic farmer, fights back against the adoption of this chemical, claiming it will have detrimental effects on their community. As tensions escalate, neighborly semblances slip, and the town risks being torn down the middle by the feud.

Resistance explores what it means to support one another in a community and invites audiences to consider their own experiences relating to the themes of the play.

Stay tuned on The EcoTheatre Lab's website, Facebook, and Instagram for exciting updates about the tour, including location announcements, cast details, and more!

Other Details:
Based on how other fundraising efforts (such as local business partnerships) proceed, we may adjust the fundraising goal. We will work to be as clear and transparent as possible if and when that happens!

Support for Resistance: A Community Tour is provided by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Iowa Arts Council, which exists within the Iowa Economic Development Authority, as well as the Discover Ames Community Grant Program.
