Hello friends, family, and music lovers,
One of the many things that I love about jazz music is the romance inherently imbedded in the repertoire. Love is a universal part of the human experience and that universality explains why so many jazz standards will forever be timeless classics. Listeners are able to express, connect, and heal on a deeper, spiritual level. That is my hope for my debut album, which is the purpose of this GoFundMe announcement.
As a bassist and vocalist from Lansing, Michigan, I grew up with a love for jazz and went off to study it in school at the University of Michigan and continued on to Michigan State University to receive my master’s degree in jazz studies. Just prior to relocating to Chicago, I recorded this album in mid-July 2024 at Troubadour Studios in Lansing. The album, titled Love’s Call, is a selection of romantic jazz standards that I sing and play with a fantastic quartet consisting of Randy Napoleon on guitar, Sequoia “Redwood” Snyder on piano, and David Alvarez III on drums (and one track featuring a vocalese written by my friend and special guest Olivia Van Goor). Love’s Call directly showcases my style and personality through my singing and bass playing. Additionally, the project allows me to express myself through the song selections and collaboration involved with the album art and the personnel I chose to accompany me.
With your help, funds raised for this project will go directly to the following expenses:
• Studio time at Troubadour Studios (recording, editing, mixing/mastering)
• Musician compensation
• Album photography and graphic design from Steven Glynn Photography
• 1,000 CDs
• Music/songwriting royalties
• Promotion for national radio play
• Website creation and maintenance
For those donating at the $30 dollar level or greater, you will receive a signed copy of the CD sent to you!
My plan is to release the album on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14th, 2025. For whatever you are able to contribute, I thank you for your support! For those who have followed me for years, to those who are now learning about me, your generosity is deeply appreciated as I begin my professional career. Let’s continue to help preserve jazz as an American art form!
Best,
Reuben Stump
