Support Richard Bresler in His Fight for Life

Richard Bresler has spent a lifetime giving back to the martial arts world. As one of the founding figures behind the famous Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy in California, Richard’s contributions have left an undeniable mark on the art and its community. He was also instrumental in helping launch the UFC during its early days and has made a lasting impact on the world of martial arts. He is also a Jiu-Jitsu teacher and author.

Now, Richard is facing one of the most difficult battles of his life—a battle for his health.

He is currently fighting a life-threatening condition that has placed immense strain on his body and spirit. To give himself the best chance of recovery, Richard must work with a renowned specialist who has a history of successfully treating individuals in similar situations. This requires Richard to relocate temporarily to Houston, Texas, where he will undergo treatment with this specialist over the course of three months.

The Situation

As if his health challenges weren’t enough, Richard faces significant financial burdens. Due to legal constraints, he is unable to exit his current lease in California and must continue paying rent while living and receiving treatment in Texas.

Richard’s health condition prevents him from working and requires him to be under constant care. His caretakers will be by his side to support his healing but they incur costs to provide him with the support he needs during this critical period.

Richard is looking at a daunting reality: the costs of treatment, housing, and care in Texas, while still covering his obligations back home. These costs, largely not covered by insurance, are immense, and Richard cannot bear them alone.

How You Can Help

Richard has given so much to the martial arts community over the years, and now it’s our turn to help him. Our goal is to raise $100,000 to ensure Richard can get the life-saving care he urgently needs.

These funds will cover:

- Three months of housing and cost of living for Richard and his caretakers while he undergoes specialized treatment in Houston.

- Travel expenses for Richard and his caretakers to relocate to and from Texas.

- Medical and living expenses not covered by insurance.

- Rent on his California apartment so he doesn't have to worry about this during his treatment.

Your Contribution Matters

Richard’s legacy in martial arts is profound and this community has always rallied to support its own. Every donation—whether it’s $10, $100, $1,000, or more—will directly contribute to Richard’s fight for survival.

If you are unable to donate, please help us by sharing Richard’s story and the link to this page. The more people who hear his story, the closer we come to giving him the chance he deserves. Together, we can make an impact.

Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support.
