We need your help raising money for Richard Handal's cremation and to handle other miscellaneous tasks associated with his belongings and collections.

Richard Handal was blessed to receive help from so many of you on a regular basis throughout the last several years - to make life in a facility more comfortable, to pay for his storage space, to fix his recliner, you name it. He always paid us back in spades though, with his friendship, his wealth of information, his dedication to the communities he was part of since their inception. His innate curiosity. His unique Richardness.

Well, it's time to pass the hat one last time for our dear friend.

Richard will be cremated and the total cost is $1,865. One of Richard’s oldest friends from the Tori Amos community will oversee spreading those ashes (or a small portion) in Iona, a place that has meant a lot to Richard over the years.

We have set the total for this fundraiser at including:

$1,865 for cremation
$300 for miscellaneous travel expenses directly associated with getting to Iona
$500 for storage-associated costs including a final month or so of storage bills while we sort through and disperse items of sentimental value

Who is organizing this fundraiser?

This fundraiser is started on behalf of a group of Richard’s friends: specifically Dor Dotson, Emi Kane, Eric Broomfield, Eric Ogata, Gerald E Hough, Megan Keel, Philip Piety and Richard Mattsson.

Will Richard have a memorial service?

We are absolutely planning a virtual event to celebrate Richard, and we’ve heard from many people who would like to be part of that. As we sort through his digital and physical storage, we have already begun to collect some wonderful photos and other accoutrement that will be meaningful to share!

When we have the date and time, we will update this GoFundMe and also Richard’s Facebook account.

What will happen if we raise less than is needed?

If we are on track to raise much less than we need, the group mentioned above will cover what is needed.

What will happen if we raise more than is needed?

As the above goal is an estimate, should we raise more than we needed, we will donate the difference to RAINN, an organization close to the hearts of many Tori Amos fans.
