Support Richard's Final Arrangements

Donation protected
Dear Friends and Family,

Please join us in supporting Susan Cody as she lays her brother to rest.

We are raising funds to honor the life and legacy of Richard Babcock, a kind and gentle soul who touched many lives, even if he didn’t always realize it. Richard was born on October 16, 1941, into a family that embraced the Baha’i Faith—a foundation that shaped how he lived his life. He dedicated his early career to teaching math in South Carolina, moving there in the 1960s to work in a federally funded math program for a rural school. His curiosity led him to pursue a master's degree in computer science, a relatively new field at the time, and he spent many years working as a state programmer until his retirement about two decades ago.

While Richard excelled in academics, he often struggled with the complexities of human relationships. His brilliant mind wasn’t always matched by social ease, and over time, it became clear that he found it difficult to distinguish between true friends and those who sought to take advantage of his generosity. Despite his challenges, Richard never hesitated to help others, often at the expense of his own well-being. He gave selflessly, even when it left him with very little, and he resisted accepting help for himself.

As he grew older, these struggles became more pronounced, and his health and living conditions worsened. Sadly, Richard passed away alone in his home around September 10, 2024. He left behind no will, little insurance, and a house in disrepair, still entangled in the aftermath of a bankruptcy. Yet, despite these challenges, Richard is remembered fondly by those who loved him—for his quiet demeanor, his deep compassion for people and animals alike, his unwavering faith, and his sense of humor.

This fundraiser seeks to help Susan Cody, Richard's sister cover the costs of final arrangements, including funeral expenses, as well as the costs of addressing the state of his home. Please join us in remembering and honoring Richard’s life, and in offering support during this difficult time. Any contribution, no matter how small, will help bring peace and closure to his loved ones.

Thank you for helping us celebrate the life of a man who gave so much to others, asking little in return.
