On January 7th, Ricky’s life was turned upside down. While warming up in the gym, he suffered a brain hemorrhage. Ricky is only 20 years old, with so many dreams ahead of him but is now fighting one of the hardest battles of his life.

Ricky is more than just a friend to us—he’s family. He’s smart, dedicated, charismatic, and full of life. Whether it’s studying at FIU, trading every day, or just being the big brother of his younger sister, the support of his grandma or a friend who always shows up for you, Ricky has always been someone you can count on. His determination is unmatched, and he inspires everyone around him.

Since the aneurysm, Ricky has shown incredible strength and resilience. Just a few days ago, he said his first words—“Ma”—to his mom, and has been working hard to eat and move again on his own. These small victories remind us of the fighter he is, but we know the road ahead will be long and difficult.

Ricky’s mom, Nubia, has been by his side every moment since this happened. She’s had to care for him full-time, and as a head of family she’s carrying this weight all on her own. She’s an amazing mom, but this is more than anyone should have to face alone.
