Ricky Lee Webb's conviction was overturned in August, 2024. After more than 46 years in prison for a crime he did not commit, he is finally free.
Ricky was wrongfully convicted by an all-white jury of a 1976 sexual assault and murder in Humboldt, Tennessee. The only evidence against Ricky, who had no prior criminal record, was the testimony of a single co-defendant. He went to prison at age 22 and is now 70 years old.
In August 2024, the Tennessee Innocence Project took Ricky’s case back to court and presented clear evidence proving the co-defendant acted alone. When the judge heard the new evidence, he overturned Ricky’s conviction on the spot.
More than 46 years of Ricky's life have been taken from him, all because of the misconduct of others, and he has been left with little to no resources to help him rebuild his life. He is a remarkable man who never gave up hope or his kind spirit, but we cannot ignore that he was robbed of his youth, his health, and much of his life’s potential. Now 70, Ricky is relying on the love and the support of his family, but their financial means are limited. Ricky someday hopes to live on his own. He also dreams of taking a vacation to the beaches of Jamaica.
Please consider donating today. 100% of the funds raised here will go to Ricky to help him rebuild his life. Any amount you can give, no matter how small, will go a long way.
