Air travel can be a harrowing experience for Disabled people, as damaged mobility equipment, inadequate staff training, inaccessible facilities, and discriminatory policies create an environment of exclusion that denies disabled travellers dignity, safety, and agency.
That's why the Rights on Flights campaign was founded in March 2023 by TV Presenter Sophie Morgan, in collaboration with aviation experts Josh Wintersgill, Chris Wood, and Roberto Castiglioni, as well as disability advocates Maayan Ziv and Martyn Sibley.
The campaign has made tremendous strides in improving the air travel experience for disabled travellers, through awareness initiatives, engagement with policymakers, and by creating groundbreaking legislation called The Assisted Air Travel Act (™).
However, much more work needs to be done both in the uk and beyond. This is a global campaign for change.
With additional funding, Rights on Flights plans to execute activities in the following key areas: creating a comprehensive training framework for ground handlers and assistance staff to improve standards and reduce recidivism; an accessible website with rights information, airport guides, accessibility features/services, and community forums and more and increased campaign activity in the UK, the US and beyond.
We are on a mission to improve the travel experience for disabled travellers, promote inclusion, equality, and accessibility across the aviation system, and achieve systemic change that benefits us all. Join us!
Thank you!
