Support Rob Scheps' Jazz and Soul Portraits

Hi. I’m Rob Scheps , saxophonist, flutist and composer. From NYC and Portland OR.

I’ve had major health issues in the form of major dental surgeries. These are ongoing and make it difficult to play, sometimes impossible. Many of you are aware of these struggles for years now.

Ergo , I’ve stayed busy composing music, which has little income compared to performing. I’m working basically without income now.

Many epic musicians have left us recently . Many are personal heroes.

I’ve conceived an 18 movement Suite where each piece is a stylized dedication . Carla Bley, Wayne Shorter, Astrud Gilberto and Sam Rivers are among them. Soul icons Tammi Terrell and Marvin Gaye will be included also.

The working title is Jazz and Soul Portraits.

The special element is the unusual pairing of music and visual art to create a unique 3-D experience that will captivate the viewer/listener.

The pieces are almost finished. My collaborator is visual artist Diane Russell , a much celebrated painter in Portland. Ultimately this will be a full gallery show. Where each image is paired with the corresponding musical piece.

The music will be recorded by 7 excellent musicians in KC this Spring.

The GoFundMe is for completion of the music to be rehearsed and recorded for the Portraits collaboration.

Costs include musicians / artists fees , recording and studio fees . The music is scheduled to be recorded in Kansas City in March. Diane and I will collaborate remotely til we work in person in April.

The final show will be a beautiful and heartfelt tribute to incredible and diverse icons .
