Support Rob Schermerhorns Recovery
Please help a combat veteran Marines recovery fund on this Veterans day, Rob Schermerhorn spent 4 years in the US Marines and served his country proudly with a tour in Iraq. He has done his duty to protect the people of this country and now it is our turn to return the favor.
On November 9th, around 10pm, a very good friend of mine, Rob Schermerhorn was leaving a bar in Albany, NY after seeing a friend's band play. A relaxing night out with friend's would soon change to a night that will forever change his life. Rob was walking to his friends car when he noticed a man walking directly towards him on the sidewalk, as Rob tried to move out of the way he bumped into the unknown man. The hooded black male then turned around and yelled at Rob. Within just seconds, and with very few words said, the man swung his arm towards Rob and as Rob raised his hand to protect himself he quickly realized the man was armed with a knife that cut through his hand and face. The suspect quickly fled the scene. Rob is very lucky to be alive. The assailant left a very deep, 5 inch gash on his face that was so close to nerves the Doctors are not sure how they were not damaged. If the cut was just an inch over in any direction the outcome would have been much worse for Rob.
With no witnesses or good description of the assailant, the police are trying to gather surveillance video to put together a good description. Rob has a very long road to recovery. The cut is so deep a plastic surgeon had to stitch it together in two different stages, over 50 stitches in total. Rob is going to be scared for life, how bad is yet to be known. He will need more trips to a plastic surgeon, and will have quite a bit of medical expenses that he will need to pay for. On top of that, he is unsure of how much time he will need to take off of work.
My Goal with this GoFundMe is to help Rob focus on his recovery and help him reduce the financial stress of the situation. Any and all donations will be greatly appreciated. Please do your part on this Veterans day and support a Veteran that is truly in need. We thank you for your support. God Bless all of out Veterans.
