Support Robin and Shirley's Mobility Needs
Donation protected
Hi everyone, my name is Courtney and I am fundraising on behalf of my cousin Robin and her mom, my great Aunt Shirley. Aunt Shirley worked as a nurse for a long time while caring for her three children. Her husband died in a terrible accident when the children were young. Robin was paralyzed from the waist down at age 16 due to a car accident, but that didn't stop her from participating in band and graduating. In her twenties, Robin was diagnosed with cancer and Shirley was there to help take care of her. Robin went through chemo and has since been cancer free. Robin is an incredibly talented artist and was active in the community, teaching at Hobby Lobby and working at a local ceramics shop.
The last few years, Shirley's health has declined and now Robin is her full time caregiver. She provides trach care, breathing treatments, and takes them both to their medical appointments. Many years ago, they were gifted a 1999 high top van that has made the trips to the doctors and to pick up medical equipment. Unfortunately, the van needs much more upkeep as it ages and the ramp is becoming more and more difficult to repair. Last summer, the ramp failed and Robin's wheelchair did not stop. She has spent much of this year recovering from the two broken legs that occurred when her wheelchair landed on top of her. Through it all, Robin and Shirley are always willing to help others in any way that they can.
If you are willing to help, I would love to be able to get them a newer van with a lift and be able to provide the maintenance these items require.
