Support Robin Whinery's Heart Transplant Journey
Donation protected
Hey everyone,
As a family, we are reaching out to ask for support for my stepmom, who requires a heart transplant. She has dealt with heart issues since 2010 and has had a total of 19 stents placed in her arteries since. During those years, due to her adoption being sealed, many medications and diets were tried to lower her triglycerides but proved unsuccessful. Years later after some of her birth family members were found, we discovered that one of her birth parents suffered from this issue as well, for her, this meant that she suffered from Familial hypertriglyceridemia. This disorder is an overproduction of very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL) from the liver. As a result, she is prone to have an excessive number of triglycerides.
Recently, on January 27th, 2024, she had her 19th stent put in. Just 9 days later, on February 5th, she had a massive heart attack due to the latest stent becoming blocked with a blood clot, causing the artery to lose function on the left side of her heart. Due to the placement of a stent in the main artery she has left, she is not eligible for a bypass, and a heart transplant is her best shot at a normal life. Her family is doing their absolute best to support her at this time, seeing her through this journey but she has more than her adult children, grandchildren, and her husband who all still need her, she also has two young children at home who she is still raising as her own with her loving and supportive husband. She is still needed by her younger children and husband for many, many years to come.
If she gets the call for her life-saving transplant, she'll have to stay in Dallas near the transplant hospital for 2-4 months. My father will be her full-time caregiver during this time, meaning he will be unable to work. This will put a financial strain on them as they live in a rental while still having their regular bills and house payments to take care of back home.
Our family is doing everything possible to support them during this challenging time, but additional help is needed to ease the financial burden. If you are unable to donate, any information or assistance for navigating the hospital stay from those who have gone through a transplant or know someone who has would also be greatly appreciated.
Thank you all for being there for them during this tough time. Your kindness and generosity are truly appreciated, and we are all so grateful for any help you can offer.
With heartfelt thanks,
The family of Robin Boswell Whinery
