Support Rose's Final Journey Home
Born April 11, 1949, in Shiprock, New Mexico, Rose was later adopted by Woodrow Sr. and Lillian Nelson. Growing up on the Navajo Nation reservation, she was always found caring for her goats and horses and taking part in many adventures (and mischief!) with her family and friends. She attended Stewart Indian School in Nevada in the 1960s, participating in almost every activity from band to the school newspaper.
In the 1970s, Rose moved out to Oakland, California, graduating from City College of San Francisco and starting her career in administration. She then relocated to San Francisco fully, making a career in HR at UCSF - it was there where she also met her husband, Kenneth. They married on September 19, 1986, shortly after the birth of their daughter Arla in March; their second daughter, Kendra, was born on their anniversary in 1991. Rose retired from UCSF in 2008 and soon after became involved with the Davis Street Community Center in San Leandro, and more involved with Intertribal Friendship House in Oakland and San Francisco, where she continued to support those in need and give back.
Rose was the embodiment of the commandment “Give assistance and kindness wherever needed”—always giving her time and support to those she loved and to her community. Every story you hear about her will mention her bright, vibrant spirit, and determination to help others. This is passed down to her daughters, shared with her husband, and respected by all who’ve had the fortune to know her.
She was a proud Navajo woman whose last wish was to be buried back home in New Mexico near her father, Woodrow Sr., and late nephew, Glenn. The cost of this is as follows: the current funeral home she rests in is priced at $5,926.18; the funeral home in Farmington, NM, who will receive her body is priced at $7,389.38; and the cemetery for her final resting place is $8,844.13. With no life insurance policy, and personal loans currently in place to assist, it would mean the most to our family for your donations to cover this total of $22,159.69 in both loans and out-of-pocket costs, with extra for any added charges.
