Support Rowe's Journey with Type 1 Diabetes

Donation protected
A week ago, our sweet Rowey was hospitalized and diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

What I (mom) thought was going to be a quick pediatrician appointment, turned into a trip to the emergency room at Primary Children’s and then Rowe being admitted into the hospital. It came as a complete shock to us. The days that followed were very emotional and overwhelming as we met with a dozen of people from his new diabetes team and learned how to provide around the clock care for our boy. It was all very confusing and traumatic for Rowe as he dealt with nearly 10 finger pokes & shots each day. The whole stay was such a haze, seeing my boy in so much pain and confusion… I don’t think I’ve ever cried that much in my whole life.

Our lives seemed to be changed forever. I know this is not a death sentence but there is a grieving period of what life used to look like before his diagnosis. As well as, there is sadness for all the challenges he will face in his life.

If you know Rowe, you know he has such a sweet and tender heart. He is always being so kind to his friends and family. No one deserves a life long diagnosis, but it’s especially hard to see it for such sweet young souls.

We are home now, and learning how to dose and give 5-6 insulin shots per day to our boy. It’s very challenging for him but I have hope for things to get better as we learn to adjust to our new normal.

With the hospital stay and future frequent appointments, we are looking at ongoing medical expenses. If you want or able to, feel free to donate to Rowe’s Gofundme.

For full transparency, this fund money would go to:

- The hospital bill and any ongoing medical expenses (future meetings with his team, price of insulin pump, continuous glucose monitor, insulin, glucagon emergency shot).
- We would love to get Rowe a service dog through Diabetic Alert Dogs of America. While we are amazed at the current technology, it can sometimes malfunction and display wrong numbers, putting Rowe in very emergent situations. We would love to have a companion for Rowe who can alert us in emergency situations. This service costs 19k and has a waiting period of 7-12 months so we would love to get started as soon as we can.

We appreciate all the love and support everyone has shown our little family in the last week. Thank you for all the texts, hugs, dinners and little presents for Rowe. The day we got home from the hospital, my car completely died too and we had a friend immediately show up with an extra car & another friend show up with parts and fixing my car the next day. I’ve truly never been this touched in my life to have so many people express their love.
