Support Roxanne After Curt's Tragic Passing

When I married my husband, I became part of an incredible family and gained "bonus parents" in my in-laws, Curt and Roxanne Hirsch. In the 30+ years that I have known them, they have shown themselves to be some of the most loving and selfless people I have ever met. Taking care of other people is what Curt and Roxanne do best, always giving more to others than to themselves.

On July 8th, 2024, Curt accidentally fell in his bathroom while Roxanne was making dinner. After hitting his head, he was taken to the emergency room for evaluation. That evening, doctors decided to keep him at the hospital overnight for observation. What happened next was so sudden, unexpected, and tragic.

Curt began to have complication after complication while at the hospital and every day led to something new. While doctors chased what might be happening to him for three days, he eventually worsened to the point that he was admitted into the ICU.

In the ICU, his breathing became so labored because of aspiration pneumonia that he had to be placed on a ventilator. While this helped regulate his irregular heart beat and breathing, Curt was unable to come out of sedation and respond to stimuli. An MRI revealed that he had suffered several small strokes as well as inflammation in his brain, which was subsequently diagnosed as viral encephalitis.

Unable to overcome the damage done to his brain by the strokes and virus, Curt peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on July 19th, 2024.

In the wake of this devastating loss many have asked how they can help. We decided this would be a good way to help Roxanne with the unexpected medical expenses and show their love and support.

Curt’s funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Brighton, CO.
