Help My Brother Fight Esophageal Cancer: A Call for Support

Dear Friends, Family, and Kind Hearts,

I’m reaching out with a heavy heart and a hopeful spirit. My brother Ryan has been courageously battling esophageal cancer, a formidable opponent that has turned his life upside down. As he undergoes crucial treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, he has faced many challeges and setbacks, including unimaginable rare life threating complications. The road to recovery is a long one, both physically and financially.

The Challenge:

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is renowned for its exceptional care, and it’s where Ryan has found the best chance for effective treatment to save his life.
However, the distance from our home means that each trip is a significant undertaking. Travel expenses—gas, lodging, and other costs—are adding up quickly, and we need your help to manage these financial burdens.
Furthermore, Ryan is currently unable to work due to his condition and has very little income to support himself during this time. This adds an additional layer of stress to an already difficult situation. We want to ensure that Ryan has the financial support he needs to focus solely on his recovery.

Our Goal:

We have set a goal to raise $20,000 to cover the travel costs for these essential trips. This will ensure that Ryan can focus on his treatment and recovery without the added stress of financial strain. Every dollar raised will go directly towards covering:

-Gas and Transportation Costs: Regular trips to and from the treatment center.
-Lodging Expenses: Overnight stays when necessary.
-Out of pocket medical, bills/copays, medical transportion if necessary
-Additional Costs: Meals and other incidental expenses.

Anything extra and not needed will be donated to the MSK's Cancer Research Center

How You Can Help:

Donate: No contribution is too small. Every donation no matter the size will make a significant difference and brings us closer to our goal.

Share: Spread the word about our campaign to your network. The more people that know, the better our chances of reaching our goal.

Offer Support: If you have suggestions or connections that could help with travel or lodging, please reach out. Currently our family has been staying at the Hemsley Medical Tower next to the hospital. He has been hospitalized since July 23rd.

Why This Matters:

Ryan is a remarkable person—full of life, generosity, and kindness. This battle with cancer is not just his fight; it’s a challenge for all of us who love and support him. By coming together, we can ease his burden and help him focus on what truly matters: his health and recovery.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for considering a contribution. Your support means the world to us and provides hope and strength during this difficult time.

With heartfelt gratitude,

The McDermott family
