"Then we went to this museum called the Legacy Museum. It wasn't much to look at from the outside, but inside...wow. It was like stepping back in time, seeing the shackles slaves wore, the tiny cells they were locked in. It felt real, brutal, like that part of history wasn't so long ago."
- Current 11th grader at Gotham Professional Arts Academy High School describing her visit to the Equal Justice Legacy Museum and memorial in Montgomery Alabama.
At our school, our students take unique course in 9th grade called "Sankofa," a Ghanian concept where you look back to the past to move forward. It's not about forgetting the past, but learning from it. It's about using that knowledge to build a better future.
This GoFundMe isn't simply to bring students to Ghana as a school trip; it's about investing in a future filled with empathy, understanding, and collaborative problem-solving. By supporting this endeavor, we're empowering our students to become the architects of a brighter tomorrow.
Let's make this journey a reality! Together, we can create a life-changing experience for our students and cultivate a generation of global citizens ready to make a positive impact on the world.
