Save Our Sarah

We are launching this appeal for community support on behalf of our beloved friend Sarah Thiessen. Sarah recently learned that she has an aggressive form of breast cancer. Although it is early days in terms of information, it is clear that the cancer is already quite advanced and her life is in immediate danger. 

Sarah is very much a part of our local tribe and has contributed countless hours of her time to the community, including gifting her professional photography skills to spaces like Blaze and the Wild Camp Out. Being Canadian and resident in Australia on a student visa, Sarah only has limited health insurance and can receive no Centrelink assistance. With an urgent need to stop working, Sarah is facing a financial crisis every bit as significant as her health one.

Due to the advanced nature of her cancer, Sarah will be undergoing hospital treatment very soon. She needs money for the basics - medical bills, food, rent, transport - and hopefully funds for alternative therapies to support her body, mind and spirit on her journey. If you are in a position to gift any financial support it would be most humbly and gratefully received.

Sarah is a beautiful kind soul who is far more comfortable giving than receiving, but she needs the love and support of the community to help her beat this. Being just 26 years old, she has so much more she wants to give and share with the world, but we need to give her our combined strength to get her through and help her cope now.

When wrestling over whether to give permission for this support fund to be set up in her name she responded:
“I dont believe my journey is any different to anyone else's... but I do know I won't be able to stay alive very long if I keep battling everyday with stress and frustration like I have to just stay fed and housed.”

Also one of her dearest friends Kylie offers:
“This is a long haul not a short one, anything you can contribute would be helpful in ensuring Sarah doesn't have to keep working just to stay afloat when what she needs most is sanctuary to rest, reflect and recover. Please help us fight this together. We need you!”
