Help Simon, Maloney, and Jack After Silver Sprocket Layoffs

Donation protected
Hello everyone, my name is Tori Bowler and three of my close friends (Maloney, Simon, and Jack) were unexpectedly laid off on February 4th, 2025 from Silver Sprocket (based in San Francisco, CA.)
Simon has worked at Silver Sprocket for 7 years, Sarah for 4 years, and Jack for 1 year. All three have had varying roles in shop staff, event coordination, wholesale management, and art design.

They are asking their community for financial support to help them cover their rent and bills while they find other work. The $10,000 goal will cover each person's rent and bills for two months. They appreciate the support and love outpouring from their community during this time!

Please donate if you are able, and sharing this fundraiser with your networks is also extremely helpful! Thank you for your kindness and support!

While we fundraise, they will also be looking for work. If you know of any good fits, please send them their way!

  • Maloney (they/them):
  • A queer cartoonist and educator. They make weird sci-fi, nature, and memoir comics. They have an MFA in Comics and experience teaching all ages, from comic classes at the university level to kindergarten classes. They are looking for teaching positions in a comic or arts program. They are also open to creative roles or comic and illustration work/gigs. Please reach out to: maloneydoodles.com

  • Simon Jane Robrock (they/he):
  • A queer disabled cartoonist & dancer, an artistic jack of all trades who's been selling you comix in SF since 2015 and self-publishing their work under Blue Hare Comix since 2012. They have experience in drawing comics, freelance illustration (band posters/event fliers), building large-scale 2D/3D art displays, sign painting, teaching, event coordination, and incredibly effective salesmanship. They’re looking for any kind of covid-safe creative work, from drawing to dancing.

  • Jack Hengesbach (they/them):
  • A writer who has previously worked in disability pride advocacy, trans activism, DEIB (diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging), and supporting the indie publishing world through warehouse coordination and inventory management. All of their achievements were made possible by their Bachelor's in Women and Gender studies. They have been organizing workshops and events for the LGBTQ+ community since they were 17 and have experience teaching all ages, especially young children. On the side, they enjoy publishing instructional diy zines to make information accessible to all. Jack is looking for remote or hybrid work in a safe and respectful workplace. They are open to physical labor and computer work.

A personal message from Maloney, Simon, and Jack: "As our country continues to decline, we all have to show up for our communities in any way we are able. Mutual aid is one way we can be there for each other. Sometimes it means asking for support, and sometimes it means showing up in support. Thank you for showing up for us, we are committed to showing up for our communities as we are able as well!"
