Support Sarah’s Art Class at SLH Moria (Indonesia)

My name is Sarah Pyykkonen and I live in Wheaton, IL with my parents and six sisters. In a few weeks, I will be traveling to SLH Moria school in Jakarta, Indonesia to meet the students and teach a painting class!

SLH Moria was founded as a high school in 2023. Its mission is to give students from rural villages in Papua access to education, teach them about Christ, and eventually send them home to spread what they have learned to their own communities. The students that attend Moria (150 total in the 2023 school year) live at the school year-round and do not see their families for the extent of their four-year education period.

During my time with Moria, I will be teaching a painting class to about 15 students following the style of the famous artist Bob Ross! We will practice acrylic painting techniques with textured brushes, palette knives, and round brushes. For this endeavor, we are trying to raise $1500 to cover materials for the supplies that we will need. These supplies will be used in my class and left at the school for future use among the Moria students.

You may be wondering: Why a painting class? The simple answer is: I love art! I have been attending the Renaissance Classical Art School for 8 years, and art is something that I know well. In addition, the students are on their summer break while we are there, and painting is a fun and relaxing summer hobby that transcends the language barrier. I am super excited to work with the students, and you can be a part of making this class a possibility! Any additional money that we raise will be donated to Moria school, which is planning to add another 150 students for the 2024-25 school year.
