Support Sara's Jaw Joint Replacement Surgery
Donation protected
If you know Sara, you know she is a loving, talented, and dedicated young woman. Since she was little, she always wanted to do everything as methodically as possible. With that determination, she became an electrical engineer at 22 and has been working for almost two years. Sara has suffered from TMJ (temporomandibular joint disorder) since middle school, but her headaches and other symptoms never stopped her from pursuing her dreams. A year ago, the muscle tension, joint inflammation, and exhaustion became unbearable. She frequently experienced difficulty chewing and talking as well as excruciating earaches and headaches. This led Sara to seek the opinions of multiple oral and maxillofacial surgeons. We are so grateful that she was able to see the leading maxillofacial surgeon in the world, Dr. Wolford, who will be conducting Sara’s surgery, a bilateral jaw joint replacement.
Despite the risks that the surgery presents, Sara and us (her family) have faith that undergoing this procedure will allow her to live a better-quality life. Her prosthesis is currently in the making, and she will have the surgery at the end of April.
Sara is blessed to be a young professional with a great job, but so far, consultations, treatment, and testing have cost approximately $20k out-of-pocket. The upcoming medical expenses including the prosthesis and surgical fee will cost about $40k out-of-pocket. Unfortunately, Sara’s health insurance will only reimburse around 5% of the cost. She never expected that at 23 she would be diagnosed with TMJ reactive arthritis. Relieving some of Sara’s financial stress will go a long way, particularly knowing that she will have a long, painful, and challenging recovery.
Your donation, whatever the amount, will be a great help to reduce Sara’s financial burden and we will be forever grateful for your generosity.
