My name is David Nelsen-Epstein. I teach Film History and Cinema Studies at Onteora High School. Last year, I established the Alice Guy-Blaché and Oscar Micheaux Memorial Scholarship to award students (particularly women and students of color) interested in the art of visual storytelling.

This scholarship is dedicated to honoring the legacies of two pioneering figures in the film industry. Alice Guy-Blaché, one of the world's first female directors, and Oscar Micheaux, a groundbreaking African American filmmaker, both shattered barriers and created timeless works that continue to inspire generations of filmmakers and audiences alike.

The Alice Guy-Blaché & Oscar Micheaux Memorial Scholarship aims to support talented and aspiring filmmakers from our community. Our goal is to provide financial assistance to students who show exceptional promise in the field of visual storytelling. By doing so, we hope to foster a more inclusive and diverse film industry, ensuring that the voices and stories of all people are heard and celebrated.

With your generous contributions, we can make a significant impact on the lives of these aspiring filmmakers. The funds raised will go directly towards a scholarship awarded at Onteora High School every June.

Join us in celebrating the remarkable legacies of Alice Guy-Blaché and Oscar Micheaux by investing in the future of filmmaking. Together, we can help shape a more diverse and vibrant cinematic landscape.

Thank you for your support and belief in the power of storytelling.
