Support School Girls in Dodoma, Tanzania

To make the world a better place for everyone, we — Jackson Coy and Getrude Chimagai (husband and wife) — have been organizing charity activities for school students in Tanzania who come from families whose parents, guardians, or siblings cannot support these children in their school needs.

At the end of every year, starting from 2020, we have been raising funds from our dear friends around the globe, to help school children we have identified as the neediest. We are doing this to enable them to participate in end-of-year celebrations, and to meet their school needs for the next school year, which in Tanzania starts in January.

Last year, we raised $336 and hence did not quite reach our target of $750. Last year’s donations were used for buying stationaries and uniforms for only 12 school girls out of targeted 30 students. We also organized and had lunch together with them on December 26, 2022 (Boxing Day). This year, our target is more ambitious, $1,500, which is why we have updated the goal to $1,836.

Unlike in previous years, where we focused on school children in general, last year we had decided to focus on school girls who were being identified at the beginning of 2022. We had the opportunity to visit one of the outskirts of Dodoma, the capital of Tanzania, where we observed the reality of what school girls go through, which negatively affects their attendance at school and consequently their academic performance. The exact location is Nghong'ona Street, Nghong'ona Ward, Dodoma Urban District, Dodoma Region, Tanzania. This year, 2023, we have decided to continue with the same charity project of the last year with the target of reaching more school girls, up to 50.

In the survey we did last year, we met some school girls searching for water (“kusaka malenga” in the local Gogo language) for their home’s use at a time when they should have been at school. This phenomenon is still persisting observed from our survey which was recently conducted.

Since you are our dear friend, with the friendship built on common interest, which among others, is to help other people, especially the minority and unprivileged groups, please let us cooperate to help a minimum of 50 Tanzanian school girls that we have managed to identify in the area mentioned above.

Your 5 dollars can put a smile on the face of one school girl by allowing her to celebrate the end of the year with her family, and your 25 dollars can make this girl get school supplies, a school uniform, and sanitary materials for the entire period of the next academic year. To support 50 school girls, we hence aim at crowdsourcing ($5 + $25) · 50 = 1,500 USD.

We are in close contact with the students and their families and will ensure that every dollar counts, reaches the students, and addresses their most urgent needs.
