Support Scott (Scatina) and EFF Cancer

Hi Folx.

Our names are Don and Brent, and we have put together this fundraising campaign for our dear Queer Family member Scott (Scatina) Paules. It feels odd to use his government name, as we have called him Scatina for so many years.

For folx who don't know Scott, he is one of the most genuinely kind and giving people that we have met in our many travels in this life. He is the kind of person who will do whatever he can to support the people he loves... even if it means making sacrifices himself along the way.

For those of you who do know Scott, I'm almost certain that each of you can tell a story about a time when his warm and gentle spirit made an important impact on you. That is just the kind of person that he has always been.

What many of you may not know is that Scott was diagnosed with stage 4, metastatic, pancreatic cancer in September of 2023. It was a devastating blow for him and those who love him dearly.

He is out of work on disability, and is figuring out how he will manage his life and living situation while he faces a difficult journey ahead. There are so many things that he regularly worries about, and there have already been expenses that are beyond normal experience: copays, deductibles, ambulance costs, uncovered medication, the list goes on. He already has a few thousand dollars in medical debt... and his journey is just beginning.

His old car is failing and he needs reliable transportation. He needs assistive technology like a lift chair, and will need things to make his living space accessible as his needs increase. His insurance does not cover home health aids, and he might need that level of care going forward. He often has very little energy for food prep, and DoorDash allows him to find something that his system can tolerate while not being stuck with tasteless or overly-processed foods.

This fund is being created to help Scott with those needs. It is not a fundraiser for a specific item. Those who give should be aware that they are giving to a discretionary fund for Scott to use in ways that will support his mobility, access, health, happiness and quality of life.

Those of you who know Scott will have no worry that he would use the funds inappropriately. He has always been a strict rule-follower. And those of you who might not know Scott, but might give to support someone who is so important to someone you care about... you can trust us that Scott is a person of the highest integrity.

What is true about this kind of devastating news is that so many amazing people (like you) immediately step forward and ask, "How can I help?" or say, "If you need anything, please just ask!"
