Support Shall’s Stroke Recovery
Donation protected
Hello My name is Dan,
On Wednesday, March 27th, at 6 am, my mum (Shall) woke up with numbness on the right side of her body. Initially, she thought she had slept poorly, but her symptoms worsened throughout the day. She became unable to walk and was admitted to the hospital later that same day. Tragically, it was discovered that she had suffered a hemiplegic stroke on the left side of her brain while sleeping which has now left the right side of her body paralysed. The doctors said she was lucky to wake up from her stroke. This news has left us all in shock. While we are grateful that Mum is still with us, her life has changed forever. She is now bed-bound and unable to move without assistance from family and carers. She relies entirely on others for help and support. My mum has lost her independence and dignity, and we are creating this GoFundMe to help her regain some of it back.
Understandably, Mum is struggling with depression since her stroke. She is used to doing everything herself, but now she is confined to a hospital bed at home and unable to leave. We are hoping to raise enough money to cover medical aids such as a mobility scooter or an electric wheelchair, Bionic walking aid and also having ramps and rails built so that we can safely take Mum outside without having to pick her up in a wheelchair and carry it over steps as this is not safe. We have enquired about ramps and rails through Stoke-on-Trent council, but there is a 12-month waiting list. Mum is stuck in the same four walls in the hospital bed day after day. Every penny donated will make a significant difference and help give my mum a bit of her life back. I’ve informed my mum that I’m setting up this GoFundMe page, and she’s embarrassed about it. However, I’ve encouraged her to not feel ashamed because it’s entirely my decision to help her recovery. Thank you.
