Support Shanae's Fight Against IIH and Expenses

Hello, My name is Shanae Luke. I’m a 30 year old Registered Nurse who worked in the capacity of a visiting homecare RN for Hartford Healthcare At Home. I have been unable to work as a nurse for over a year due to a newly acquired and debilitating neurological condition known as Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH). IIH is a condition that occurs when the pressure within the skull is elevated for no reason. Symptoms mimic a brain tumor but no tumor is present. Symptoms include: headaches, dizziness, ringing in ears in sync with heart beat, fainting, blurred vision, double vision, etc. This condition can also lead to permanent visual loss and mortality if left untreated. I was also told that I have severe bilateral transverse sinus stenosis. This means that the my left and right dural transverse sinuses have severe narrowing which is impacting the flow of fluid from my head to my heart and other parts of my body. With that said, I was terminated from my job November 2023 because of my neurological disability. They tried to validate their decision of terminating me by claiming “undue hardship”. Since my termination, I have a lot of financial difficulties including medical expenses, monthly bills, self care and care for my toddler who has Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). I had several neurological procedures including venograms, lumbar punctures etc. I had endovascular neurosurgery on June 11, 2024 and was discharged from the ICU and recovering at home. I really need help financially. I am grateful for any assistance no matter how small. My goal is to be restored to health, free of symptoms (painful headaches, dizziness, pulsatile tinnitus, fatigue etc.) and to continue my passion as working as a RN and helping others in need.
