Support Shannon's Students with Adaptive Footwear
Donation protected
Hi! My name is Shannon and I work as a physical therapist in a school for students with multiple disabilities. Part of my job is to work alongside an orthotist to provide students with the best available orthotics and equipment for them to succeed. Unfortunately, the use of orthotics puts an additional burden on the families to purchase adaptive shoes/footwear to accommodate the braces.
I am running the Jersey City half marathon on April 13th in order to raise money to create a fund that will be used to provide children and their families with safe and appropriate footwear.
Ankle-foot orthoses (AFOs) are custom-made braces that support the foot, ankle, and leg up to the knee. They can be used to help with ambulation or as night splints. AFOs can: improve gait, support joints, prevent deformities, reduce pain, increase mobility, control alignment, and prevent contractures.
Any amount is endlessly appreciated as we try to help out some wonderful families and make each step a little easier.
