Funds for Shaun Pitcher recovery and repatriation

Donation protected
Hi, My name is Claire Manning. I live in Glasgow, but was born and bred in South Shields in the North East of England with my parents and big brother Shaun.

Tragically, at the beginning of April 2024, Shaun was struck down with Melioidosis whilst in Thailand. It's a life threatening infection, that if not treat, can be fatal https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melioidosis
After the initial diagnosis, a secondary problem arose: an embolism in his femoral artery. Unfortunately, Shaun had to be transported to a different hospital to perform an embolectomy. He suffered a cardiac arrest whilst in theatre and needed to be resuscitated. Steps to remove the artery blood clot had to be aborted.

When Shaun's heart was strong enough, he was taken back to theatre. He needed to have his left leg amputated above the knee. I believe this is where he got a dangerous bacterial infection that has ravaged through his body. I am so proud of how he is fighting every single day.

My parents, myself, our family and friends have been doing everything we can to help facilitate his care, but various barriers have made it very difficult: the time difference, language interpretation issues and access to medical staff to discuss his care. I therefore came to Thailand. As a result, we have been able to move Shaun to a hospital that's much better equipped to save him: Bangkok hospital in Nakhon Ratchasima.

His primary battle is the bacterial infection, which resulted in further surgery on 3rd May 2024. He is now receiving the best care from the consultants in this truly amazing hospital and continues crucial victories in his battles.

Shaun is still in intensive care, intubated and on a ventilator, but with further and continued medical help, the clinicians are very hopeful that he can recover. He's in the right place to be able to win his battle; the care and medical expertise in this hospital is second to none.

Shaun is a warrior, and myself and my family are in awe of his strength. He is, and will continue to fight this, and we are all right behind him.

So, how can you help us?

All of the treatment and medical intervention listed above is unprecedented and could not have been predicted. To support Shaun to recover and rehabilitate, my family and I are reaching out to your good nature, and seeking donations, however big or small, so that we can continue to cover the cost of his medical care.

We appreciate you reading this far, and listening to my brothers brave journey, and our plea for your support.

Thank you

Claire and family
