Support Shawna and her family recover from the hurricanes

We all have watched Hurricane Helene negatively change many lives. Like many others, Shawna Hanna and her family are left with costly repairs to their home. They suffered a devastating loss, losing most of their belongings they spent a lifetime accumulating, including furniture, clothing, electronics, appliances, and significant damage to their car. And sadly, many personal memorable items that are not replaceable. Shawna shared on her Facebook "The loss of generational games. homemade cards, family pictures, kids art work, family items are the biggest loss to us. All the appliances and other items can be replaced but so many tears have been shed the past few days going through all the loss".

Shawna and her husband Greg, along with their son Hunter (12), live along the coast in a flood zone. Their love and strong family bond have given them the strength to survive the distressing past several weeks together. Along with the joyful anticipation of their daughter Chloe expecting their first grandchild in November!

Shawna and Greg, with the support of friends, have been working day and night cleaning up and removing debris, destroyed belongings, floors, walls, cabinets, from the first hurricane while the second hurricane loomed. They are extremely grateful and touched by the love and support of family, friends, and coworkers throughout this trying process.

While their damage from Hurricane Helene has still not been assessed, they, like others, were then impacted by Hurricane Milton. Creating additional damage, this time to the outside of their home.

For Shawna, an integral part of the recovery process is for her and her family to recognize that they are not alone in their loss, and to have concern for others who also are suffering. While there are community resources available, Shawna and Greg have declined them as they feel they are fortunate to have each other and there are others who may need the help more. Shawna has shared that this has been the most awful two weeks of their lives but sticking it out together has brought them even closer.
