My name was Winnie and I was a chocolate lab that most people respect and love. But that wasn't my case. I spent most of 12 years outside tethered to a chain. One day someone noticed me laying lifeless on the ground. He took me to a veterinarian in Tennessee to be euthanized. But the Dr. had heard of a place in Metropolis, IL somewhat like an assisted living for senior dogs. She contacted Sheree Gilbert and asked if she would be willing to take me. Of course she said yes! I spent the next two years in a home with other senior furbabies, where I got medical care, food, and most of all love. I was a perfect companion and when I crossed the Rainbow Bridge, I weighed over 100 pounds! I knew I was finally important and most of all loved.
We are Sheree Gilbert's family and are doing this because of all she has done for the homeless, neglected, and abused animals of Southern IL, Western KY, and beyond. Without her these animals would be left to die a slow painful death alone or euthanized. She has taken care of over 50 dogs herself by providing a home, food and veterinary care. The majority of this has come out of her own pocket! She networks, transports and finds homes for many. She doesn't complain and is doing what she loves but we feel she deserves any help you can offer.
If you are a dog (or animal) lover, please give whatever amount you can to help these poor animals and Sheree's mission. These funds will be solely used for the care of these animals. These precious souls deserve a change.
Thank you.
