Support Shikari: My PTSD Service Dogs Medical Care
Donation protected
Goal: $1,000 (Subject to Increase if surgery is needed)
Hello, I’m Davey Oswald, and this is the story of Shikari, my valiant PTSD service dog, and unwavering companion. Shikari, who turned 8 recently, has been more than a pet; he’s been my anchor through the tumultuous waves of PTSD and the challenges of life as a Marine Veteran.
- Here Is a Video Montage of our trip from last May to see Enter Shikari in Chicago, the band from the UK he is named after.
Recently, Shikari began showing signs of discomfort due to hip dysplasia and a possible torn ACL, manifesting in a persistent limp and reluctance to bear weight on his right leg. His spirit remains undaunted, but his body tells a different story.
We were fortunate to receive a trial of joint and arthritis supplements, which showed promising results. However, as a student with no income, struggling with my medical treatments and job search, I find myself unable to afford the continual supply of these supplements, let alone the specialized leg and hip brace he desperately needs. The brace is crucial for stabilizing his condition and preventing further injury, especially since an MRI, covered by a grant from Harley’s Hope, is on the horizon to determine the exact nature of his injury.
Our current goal is to raise $1,000, which will go towards Shikari’s joint supplements and medications, the custom leg and hip brace, and any other immediate medical needs. This amount might increase if surgery becomes an unavoidable step in his journey to recovery (but we are really hoping this will put him on the right track with Physical Therapy).
Shikari has been a beacon of hope and resilience in my life. He’s more than just a service dog; he’s a hero who has stood by me in my darkest times. Now, it’s my turn to stand by him. The costs of his food is already handled, but the costs of his medical care are beyond our current means.
Your support would not just be aiding a dog in need; it would be helping a veteran maintain his lifeline, his companion, his friend. Every contribution, no matter how small, brings Shikari one step closer to pain-free walks and joyful days.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story. Please consider donating or sharing this campaign to help Shikari. Together, we hope to navigate this challenging path and emerge stronger.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Davey Oswald and Shikari
Here are some Videos highlighting his current dire situation.
These two videos I took tonight on our walk (1/18/24) He is still trying to do his best but he can't put any weight on his back right leg :(
Outside the VA in Athens, you can see how his right side limp is getting severly bad even on the regular supplement dose.
- Shikari has been struggling to jump into the truck recently, I have to completely lift him out of the truck now which he hates, but The last time he jumped out on his own he hurt his front paw and I'm never letting that happen again.
- Shikari is always proud to constantly beat his record timing while he completely eviscerates any stuffed animal
- An Old Picture from about 3 years ago at our old home in Illinois, Shikari Loved making music and playing video games.
- Obligatory Bootcamp Photo that was Nearly 19 years ago holy crap I would be about to retire.
