Support Siblings Injured in Senseless Gunfire

Donation protected
Father John Howard, mother Joanna Algarin, and their two children, 11-year-old Johan and 15-year-old Juliana, are pleading for an end to violence after their children were struck by a hail of gunfire in their Dorchester community. This incident occurred on a Sunday night around 8:30 at the Franklin Field housing community. Tragically, Johan and Juliana were injured in the horrifying event. We urgently seek your assistance to support this family as they navigate the physical and emotional challenges brought about by this senseless act of violence.

About the Incident: Joanna Algarin, the mother, recounted the evening when she was preparing dinner for her family. She was grilling chicken outside after preparing side dishes inside their apartment when she heard what sounded like fireworks. Tragically, both of her children were playing nearby when they were struck by the gunfire.
- 11-year-old Johan Howard, a sixth-grader at Charles Taylor Elementary in Mattapan, was shot in the leg but has since been released from Boston Children’s Hospital.
- 15-year-old Juliana Howard, a sophomore at the Community Academy of Science and Health in Dorchester, is currently in critical condition at Boston Medical Center, reliant on a ventilator due to the severe injuries she sustained. She suffered four gunshot wounds, including one that pierced her head.

Juliana's Current State: As of now, Juliana Howard is undergoing a series of multiple surgeries and bravely fighting for her life while connected to a ventilator. Her condition remains critical, and her journey to recovery is fraught with challenges. The resilience and determination that she demonstrated in the face of adversity are now more critical than ever as she battles to overcome the devastating impact of this senseless act of violence.

The Impact on the Family: John Howard, the father, has been deeply affected by the incident as well. Together with Joanna, they are facing unimaginable challenges in the wake of the shooting. Johan, who has been released from the hospital, faces the daunting task of healing physically and emotionally from the trauma he experienced during this horrifying event.

Calls for an End to Violence: Joanna Algarin and John Howard, together with their family, were not involved in the nearby gathering happening around the time of the shooting. They are uncertain about the source of the gunfire and believe that Johan and Juliana were innocent victims, in the wrong place at the wrong time. Algarin and Howard passionately appeal for an end to violence, emphasizing that it is always someone who doesn't deserve it, and this incident was senseless. In the wake of this tragedy, the family, together with the community, is calling for action to ensure the safety of children in their neighborhood. They believe that something must be done to protect these young lives, not just during election time but always.

How You Can Help: Your generous contributions can provide crucial support to the Howard family during this difficult time. The funds raised will go towards covering medical expenses, rehabilitation, counseling, and the day-to-day expenses incurred as they strive to rebuild their lives. Your kindness and compassion can make a significant difference in the journey to recovery for Johan and Juliana, particularly as Juliana battles through surgeries and fights for her life.

Please donate what you can and share this campaign with your friends and family to spread the word. Together, we can make their path to healing and justice a little smoother. Thank you for your support.
