Support Silvia Watson's Battle with Lung Cancer

Hi! This is my beautiful and amazing mom, Silvia Watson. She is 66 years old, a caring mother of 3 and she is my superwoman. She has spent her life committed to our family, our community, and to a healthy lifestyle but sometimes the universe has other plans. Our family was devastated this winter when she was diagnosed with lung cancer for the second time in her life. The previous diagnosis was around 10 years ago when she was given a 2% chance of survival. By the grace of God and an amazing team from Johns Hopkins, she was able to overcome that battle with cancer. The week of Christmas our hearts broke when we learned her previous diagnosis returned. This time the tumor in her lungs is smaller but she will still have to endure Proton radiation therapy twice daily for four weeks, in addition to chemotherapy.

This treatment is physically and mentally draining for my mother and our entire family. We are doing everything we can to provide for her and to be the support she needs while she is unable to work. Unfortunately, the only treatment center is 2.5 hours from home so she has had to pay to temporarily relocate. In order to take care of her, my sister and I have had to take costly flights home from across the country. At the same time, our brother and step-father have had to take over managing the family business. The expenses so far have heavily impacted us and as you likely know, the cost of treatment is even more devastating. We are anticipating over $20,000 in medical bills for her tests, treatments, and additional care. It is hard to admit, but this is far beyond what our family can afford ourselves.

We are asking that anyone with the ability to donate, big or small, would consider helping our family get through this impossible situation. We know everyone is facing their own struggles right now and we are so grateful for the love that our friends and family have continued to show us. Even if you are not able to donate, just reading and sharing this means the world to us. Our mom believes that God always has a plan and with the support of our community we know she will prevail.

¡Hola! Esta es mi hermosa y maravillosa mamá, Silvia Watson. Tiene 66 años, es una madre cariñosa de 3 hijos y es mi superwoman. Ha dedicado su vida a nuestra familia, nuestra comunidad y a un estilo de vida saludable, pero a veces el universo tiene otros planes. Nuestra familia quedó devastada este invierno cuando le diagnosticaron cáncer de pulmón por segunda vez en su vida. El diagnóstico anterior fue hace unos 10 años, cuando le dieron un 2 % de posibilidades de sobrevivir. Por la gracia de Dios y un equipo increíble de Johns Hopkins, pudo superar esa batalla contra el cáncer. La semana de Navidad se nos rompió el corazón cuando nos enteramos de que su diagnóstico anterior había vuelto. Esta vez, el tumor en sus pulmones es más pequeño, pero aún tendrá que soportar la radioterapia de protones dos veces al día durante cuatro semanas, además de la quimioterapia.

Este tratamiento es agotador física y mentalmente para mi madre y para toda nuestra familia. Estamos haciendo todo lo posible para cuidarla y ser el apoyo que necesita mientras no puede trabajar. Desafortunadamente, el único centro de tratamiento está a 2,5 horas de casa, por lo que ha tenido que pagar para mudarse temporalmente.
