The SoccerHead FC team, comprised of former outstanding D1 athletes with promising professional prospects, embark on a once-in-a-lifetime journey as they prepare for the TST Women’s Tournament with a $1M prize on the line. Former women’s soccer standouts are lacing up their cleats again after stepping away from the game.
10 years ago, if you weren’t Alex Morgan, Megan Rapinoe, or Abby Wambach, you weren’t going to make a living playing soccer in the United States. Two professional women’s soccer leagues had already folded and been scrapped by the time the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) was created in 2013. Even with the great success of the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT), the salaries, resources, and training environments that the league could offer at the time were barely enough to live on. Despite the odds, the women of the SoccerHead FC team aimed for the stars, chasing after their dreams by entering the draft, going abroad, or keeping up their training to be ready for whenever their chance might come.
Like so many women in America, these athletes had to face the reality that their dreams were unable to provide them with the needs to live, and they left the soccer world for the corporate one. But now they’re back to compete in the first-ever women’s specific bracket at TST this year. The SoccerHead FC team will compete in a 7 versus 7 style of soccer – with a winner- take-all grand prize of $1M. Out hundreds of applications, the team was selected as one of eight teams to compete. Should the team win, they will set an example for young athletes to never give up on their dreams. This team of corporate America converts will face up against elite professional teams like the former USWNT players and other current professional teams. These women are here to compete for their second chance at glory in cleats, win or lose. They thought the final whistle had blown on their playing time as soccer but here’s their Take 2.
Join us in supporting the transportation and logistics/operational costs of the team. Every bit helps!!
