Support Sol Tribe Shooting Survivor in Healing Transition

Dear Community,

We are asking for support to uplift our cherished community member Jimmy Maldonado in a vulnerable transition. As many of you know, 2.5 years ago, Jimmy became a surviving victim in a targeted shooting at his workplace Sol Tribe Tattoo and Piercing shop. His beloved wife Alyssa Gunn Maldonado and his dear childhood friend Alicia Cardenas were tragically shot and killed. Our community and the world was deeply impacted by the heartbreaking loss of these precious and powerful women. The impact for Jimmy was inconceivable. Adjusting to life without his wife and recovering from the lasting physical, emotional, and spiritual impacts of his enormous loss and the gunshot trauma he endured has been ongoing.

Jimmy has been a warrior in the aftermath of the unimaginable. He has stayed committed to his healing over this time of deep grief and transformation. He has strived to show up as the best father he can be to his teenage son. He has been wholeheartedly devoted to his indigenous ways of prayer and his passion for community healing. He has been a source of inspiration for so many of us.

Jimmy has continued working at Sol Tribe all this time, greatly due to his socioeconomic position and in many ways, he has been functioning in survival mode to make ends meet. Showing up everyday to the place where the shooting occurred and being constantly reminded of the tragedy, has taken an immense toll on his well being. He has had to normalize regular flashbacks and the nervous system dysregulation that follows. Now that Jimmy is coming out of shock from the shooting he is READY for a radical and liberating change!

Jimmy has been given the opportunity to help kickstart a new piercing shop with Wolf and Goat Tattoo and leave his job at Sol Tribe. He is grateful for the chance to start fresh with another chapter of his life. However, there will be a transitional period without solid income until the new business takes off. We are asking for community support to make his transition easeful and help him succeed with his courageous endeavor to open a new shop, be abundant, and flourish.

Our ask:

Support with up to 6 months of living expenses while the new business gets off the ground.

Any extra funds will go towards physical and emotional recovery from bullet removal surgery which is scheduled for this summer.
