In Loving Memory of Sonia Chapa Gomez

Dear friends, family, and supporters,

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of my beloved mother, Sonia Chapa Gomez, on February 26, 2025, after a courageous three-year battle with Stage 4 ALK Positive Adenocarcinoma. Despite enduring numerous treatments, including radiation, clinical trials, and chemotherapy, her battle ultimately reached its end.

Sonia was a true fighter — a mother, teacher, and friend who inspired so many with her strength, grace, and love. While we are heartbroken by her loss, we are forever grateful for the time we shared with her and the impact she had on all of us.

The funds raised through this GoFundMe campaign were originally intended to help cover her medical bills and treatment costs. While Sonia has passed, any remaining donations will go towards helping with her final expenses and supporting her family during this difficult time.

We will be holding her memorial service on March 7, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the UTRGV Performing Arts Center in Edinburg, TX. The service will be a celebration of Sonia’s life, followed by performances from her son, Cristian, and her students — a tribute to her love for the arts and the many lives she touched.
