Support Stafford's SPCA Through This Eagle Scout Project

My name is Peter Gumaer. I am currently a Life Scout with Troop 850 in Stafford, VA. I am working towards my Eagle Scout rank. For my Eagle project, I will be building custom storage shelves, in unused closet space, for the Stafford SPCA Animal Rescue. The Stafford SPCA is located in a converted, 100 year old brick & block nursing home. The animal care rooms are comfortable and spacious, but storage space is extremely limited. I will be building these free standing custom shelves out of wood, boards, and screws, and assembling them inside of concrete block closet spaces. All of the shelf pieces will be pre-cut, and then assembled, on site, with the help of fellow Scouts. Once the shelves are complete, closet doors with locking hasps will be provided, to keep curious kitties out of the supplies. The bottoms of each closet space will be kept open for litter box use.

The frame of the shelves will be built using 2-3 boards that are set up in the closet and kept together with the 2-½-in screws. The OSB boards will then be placed on top as the surface for the storage to rest on.

In total, I expect to build approximately 24 shelves, in 6 converted closet spaces, and I estimate that the shelves will add about 300+ square feet of additional storage space for things like cat litter, cleaning supplies, paper products, dog & cat food, treats, toys and other items. This will virtually double the dry goods storage space in the shelter building, and be a huge help to the SPCA team. The Stafford SPCA goes through roughly 80 pounds of cat litter each day, and cases of paper towels, and tons of dog & cat food each week. Having enough space to safely store and have what they need, on hand, will make a big difference to their operations and in the lives of the animals that they care for.

Any funds left over after the project will go towards stocking these shelves with the relevant supplies.

We are fundraising for an Eagle Scout Project. To create additional storage in currently underused spaces in the Stafford SPCA rescue facility. This new shelving will drastically improve the Stafford SPCA's storage capacity, and the functionality of their spaces, and allow for even better animal care.
