Support Star Diner Staff During Crisis

I wish I had the presence of mind to write something compelling here.

I don't know what comes next.

We are all taking this one moment at a time - Most of us in Asheville don't have power, water, or any way to communicate with the outside world. I haven't been able to even try to contact insurance companies, Federal assistance agencies, unemployment offices, most of our STAFF, the list goes on. Brian (and my mother - they make a tough team to argue against) insisted that I get the kids to her house in Charlotte and stock up on supplies to bring back. I'll be with Brian and the clean up mission in Marshall as soon as possible.

In the meantime, I'm worried about our staff and how they're going to make their next rent & mortgage & car payments & buy groceries.

I cannot call this a "rebuild" fund - I just don't know what's next - but Brian & I have had people ask how they can get us money & I will absolutely accept help wherever I can get it.

Money collected here will be split among the staff based on average number of hours worked per week.

You have my word that your money will reach the intended recipient. As far as the "fundraising goal," I threw a dart & hit a number slightly less than our average payroll (bi-weekly).

So many people have reached out & I've been responding in the briefest of manners. It's just all so much - and so HARD to communicate from our house. Just know that I've read every single message & they are all bringing tears to my eyes - not for what we've lost, but what we've gained in community over the last 8 years.
