Help STARS Host Research Workshop for Young Scientists

Donation protected
Hello! We are the STARS nonprofit organization (Structural Nucleic Acid Anticancer Research Society (STARS), Inc.), which was started by a Walton HS (now Georgia Tech) student in 2021.
Our mission is to bring crystallography research experiences to undergraduate students and high schoolers. We desire to show students the scientific and beautiful sides of inorganic compound and protein crystal-growing.
These last couple of years, we have hosted over six distinct crystal-growing competitions, crystallography workshops, or crystallography summer camps. Across all our events we have had over 340 students participate in our programs.

More recently, our STARS collegiate branch (at GT) was able to host protein crystallization workshops for the first time! In the whole existence of STARS, we had never been able to grow protein crystals before. The crystals were gorgeous. Our collegiate branch members were so excited, and we would like to share that excitement with Walton HS students!

Our workshop event for Walton HS students is on Saturday, May 18th. The reservation costs for reserving the space and for reserving staff for that day is $694.05. Currently, we are operating out of our own pockets. All previous donations made to the organization were donations in the form of materials and equipment (American Crystallographic Association: $1010 in-kind donation (in the form of awards and medals) in 2021; Hampton Research, Inc.: $809 in-kind donation (in the form of crystallography materials that will be used in the May 18th, 2024 crystallography workshop).

If you would be so kind as to make a small donation to help us pay off the room and staff reservation cost, we would so greatly appreciate it. We aim to bring to students an insightful, inspiring crystallography workshop event, filled with the guest lecturer talk, the lunch with current Georgia Tech students (who are part of the STARS collegiate branch), and the crystallography workshop with industry-standard crystallography materials that we will be providing to student participants for free.

As a public nonprofit, we are dedicated to the students in our community. We aim to do good for the community. If you support our cause in spreading the love of science and research to high school and undergraduate students, we would appreciate it if you support us by making a donation today.

NOTE: While the description for the event was originally for the 2024 May workshop, the costs associated with the workshop is still applicable for the 2025 May workshop, and all funds on this funding page will be used towards the 2025 May workshop in purchasing reagents and reserving space if necessary. Any additional funds not used in the 2025 high school crystallography workshop will be used by STARS nonprofit at its discretion that is in furtherance of its nonprofit charitable and educational purposes.
