Here is her story, posted directly from Stephanies FB post on March 20th, 2024:
“This is an extremely personal post, I want to be open about the health journey I am embarking on not only to be transparent, but more importantly to bring awareness. After 2 months of extensive testing/scans, on March 1st, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Cervical Cancer. As anyone can imagine, this kind of news was a complete shock to both of us, our families and friends. It's important to mention, I experienced no symptoms leading up to my diagnosis, I felt fine, no pain and was not showing any signs to cause concern which is why it came more as a shock. Nevertheless, I've received an unconditional amount of love and support and could not be more thankful. We also have an exceptional medical team and have the utmost confidence in overcoming this obstacle. I will undergo chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatment over the next 5 months so keeping us in your prayers is greatly appreciated. I know I am strong enough to kick this cancers' ass and have nothing but a positive mindset going forward!
In an effort to bring awareness, I want to share a little on how we got here. I went in for my routine exam and also wanted to check on my ovaries/fertility to ensure everything was still in working order. While everything else looked fine, an abnormality in the pelvic area was found during an ultrasound which led to many tests and scans. My doctor's were as surprised and confused as we were, as the data was showing the possibility of cervical cancer but with no symptoms it was still inconclusive. We are extremely fortunate and blessed that we had such aggressive doctor's that wanted answers for us as much as we did. We did find that HPV was present even though it had never shown up in any prior exams. For the most part we thought everything was contained to the pelvic area however, a PET Scan revealed activity in a few neck lymph nodes and was confirmed to be linked when both a conization biopsy and lymph node biopsy were performed.
That brings us to March 1st, my GYN Oncologist explained that unfortunately the way my cancer grew was abnormal and almost hidden which is why it was so hard to detect and with no warning signs. She gave us the Cervical Cancer diagnosis and said because it had metastasized to the neck lymph nodes it is considered Stage 4. It has not affected any other organs and is fortunately only in those 2 places. She ensured us that everything is treatable and while this requires more aggressive treatment, she is extremely confident that this will kill the cancer. Despite getting such alarming news, I am truly grateful, grateful being an understatement, that we found the cancer now and can fight it. Again, I hope this encourages and brings awareness to please keep doing your routine exams as often as you can and ask questions even if you don't think and/or feel anything is wrong. I will try to update everyone when I'm able to. Nothing but positive thoughts and energy. Oh and Fuck Cancer.”
