Support Steve and Andrea's Recovery from Eaton Fire Loss

It's with absolute devastation and shock that I share the news that my dad, Steve, and stepmom, Andrea, lost their house in Altadena in the Eaton Fire.

When my dad and stepmom evacuated early on Tuesday, it was out of precaution for the high winds, as the house rested under a large live oak and a few tall pines. When the Eaton fire broke out later that evening, it was too late to return for their go-bags and family heirlooms. They quite literally are left with the clothes on their backs and so, I'm asking for any help to get their immediate needs met. Please contribute if you can; even sharing this link will be a huge help. My dad and Andrea are lucky to still have their cars and other resources and will distribute any unused funds to their neighbors.

Many of you have had the pleasure of sitting on the deck under that magnificent live oak (pictured above) and know firsthand the magic of this house. And for those of you who didn't get a chance to visit, I'm sure you've heard me talk about how it backed up to the Angeles National Forest, where my dad and stepmom honed their love of ultramarathons (or, in Andrea's case, runs of a more reasonable and sane distance...). You've also heard me wax poetic about its being the crown jewel of locally famous architect Randell Makinson, inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright, which then inspired Aria, my stepsister, to become an architect. I grieve for her and her brother, Croix, in the loss of their childhood home and artifacts. My sister Sydney and I both had stints living there, too — it's where I landed for the first five months I was back in LA and had since evolved into our version of the family home here. This is all to say that the loss of the house is so much more than the loss of some walls. We all know this, most especially our friends and neighbors whose homes haven't been spared either. I'm grateful we got to spend one last Christmas together there (below) and hope others have those memories, too.
